Our same-day lens lab

We cut and fit lenses here, not somewhere else

Most practices send every job to an outside lab and wait a week. We have edging equipment on site, so for straightforward single-vision prescriptions we can often finish your glasses the same day — which matters a great deal when you've just broken your only pair.

What a lens lab actually does

Four steps, about an hour of work

A lens doesn't arrive shaped like your frame. It arrives as a round blank, and someone has to cut it to fit. That's what the lab does.

STEP 01

Trace your frame

The exact shape of your chosen frame is scanned and stored, down to fractions of a millimetre.

STEP 02

Mark the blank

Your optical centre is marked on the round lens so it lands exactly where your eye looks through.

STEP 03

Edge it

A diamond wheel grinds the blank down to your frame's shape and cuts the bevel that holds it in place.

STEP 04

Fit & check

Lenses go into the frame, and we verify the finished prescription before it goes anywhere near your face.

What we can and can't do same day

Same-day isn't a promise we can make on every job — it depends entirely on what your prescription needs.

Straightforward single vision

One prescription across the whole lens, in a power we hold in stock.

  • Single-vision distance or reading lensesStandard powers we keep on the shelf.
  • Common prescription rangesModerate sphere and cylinder, nothing unusual.
  • Clear plastic or polycarbonateThe materials we stock in volume.
  • Re-cutting lenses into a new frameWhere your existing prescription still works.
Not same day

Anything that needs surfacing

These lenses are manufactured to your individual measurements at an external lab. There is no way to shortcut that.

  • Progressive lensesEvery progressive is surfaced individually to your measurements and frame. This is the most common request and the honest answer is no — allow the usual turnaround.
  • BifocalsSame reason — the segment has to be manufactured, not cut.
  • Strong or unusual prescriptionsHigh powers, high astigmatism or prism fall outside stock range.
  • Transitions, polarised or tinted lensesThese are made or treated at the lab.
  • Specialty coatings and high-index materialsApplied during manufacture, not here.

Please read before you count on it

Same-day is an emergency service, not our standard turnaround. We offer it when someone genuinely needs glasses today — not as the normal way we work.

It depends on your prescription being within our stock range and the lenses actually being on the shelf when you come in. We can't know that until we check, so please ask us rather than assuming.

A rush or service fee may apply to same-day and expedited work, depending on what's involved. We'll always tell you the cost before we start.

When it matters

Broken glasses

Snapped frame or cracked lens, and you can't see well enough to drive or work without them.

Lost your only pair

No backup, and waiting a week isn't realistic.

Travelling tomorrow

Flying out and you'd rather not spend the trip squinting.
